Domestic Violence / Assault
Police often arrest someone for domestic violence on the word or allegation of the complainant alone. Unlike with many offenses, most prosecutors will proceed against people charged with domestic violence even if the complainant/alleged victim wants or demands dismissal. Charges of domestic violence are divisive and emotional, and are occasionally falsely levied to gain advantage in a divorce or custody case.
If you are charged with domestic violence, you may be required to immediately leave your home, surrender weapons, post a bond and give up other freedoms. If you are convicted of domestic violence, you will not be allowed to possess a weapon, face possible jail, extended probation, and you will likely face extensive counseling, fines, anger management classes and community service.
Our attorneys have both prosecuted and defended thousands of domestic violence cases. We have the insight and common sense to recognize that allegations are not always true just because the police believe them to be so. If you have been wrongfully accused, we will aggressively pursue the truth through cross-examination of the “victim.” If you have been arrested and are frustrated at the state because no one will listen to your spouse or you, please call us. There are many options available to you, ranging from a jury trial to first-offender programs, that we will explain in a free consultation.
